SugarSquare
Denver, Coloardo

For Urban Villages, the scale of a project is not what matters most. We seek long-term results: Financial, social, and environmental. SugarSquare, a modern jewel-box building tucked between vintage neighbors, demonstrates that scale and value are not necessarily proportionate.

As conceived, SugarSquare will be a two-story slot structure situated between the Historic Sugar Building (corner of 16th and Wazee streets) and the existing commercial corridor along Wazee. SugarSquare appears to be a minor player in the local setting at just under 5,000 square feet. Yet this urban infill project will attractively complete its block in Denver's historic LoDo district, and bring new life and attention to the surrounding neighborhood.

SugarSquare was designed by Kuwabara Payne McKenna Blumberg (KPMB), the same architecture firm that designed the SugarCube project. KPMB, a Toronto-based firm, is renowned for designing contemporary buildings that fit into historic districts, yet stand out as achievements of their own time.
